Why do you think this thread had absolutely no conversation? A three-player sci-fi co-op third person shooter? Groundbreaking. Who cares if the game is marginally easier with more people involved? Limiting the size of a player group to this level is only going to put people off.

ESO has dungeons you can't access as a large party, Sea of Thieves doesn't have any boats larger than four players (and there's absolutely no way of joining the same game as your friend unless you have a "no progression allowed" private world), but surely in this day and age there isn't any technical reason for it? It's bottlenecking for no reason. Arc Raiders is heading to Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, sometime next year. Even MMOs can't get away from four player groups. Human Fall Flat is literally the only non-competitive multiplayer game I can think of for larger groups of people.
They can't seem to get away from the "people who play games don't have friends to play games with" stereotype. Even Gears of War has gone from being a 4 player experience to a 2+1 setup (and who would choose to play as the awful little floaty robot?). I always used to think the limit was just "this console can only accept four controllers", but now? Hundred player battle royals, with a three player campaign co-op mode. Four-player co-op used to be a thing, now games seem to be falling back to three players, as though no-one is capable of making a balanced co-op experience for a larger group of players. Just seems like more and more games are taking a step backwards. To overcome these mechanical menaces, the Raiders need to use teamwork and co-op tactics in order to succeed, utilizing on-the-fly strategies, in-game physics, and the environments.
